Interrotron
The interrotron — originally developed by documentary filmmaker Errol Morris — is a two-teleprompter system that allows an interviewer and subject to make direct eye contact through the camera lens. The interviewer’s face appears on a screen in front of the subject’s camera, and vice versa. The result is an interview that feels like a genuine conversation while the subject looks directly into the lens.
This setup is particularly effective for untrained speakers, real-people interviews, and documentary subjects who might feel uncomfortable speaking to a camera. Instead of staring into a glass lens, they see a real human face — which relaxes them and produces natural, authentic responses.
LA Teleprompter’s interrotron setup is popular with documentary filmmakers, branded content producers, and corporate clients throughout Los Angeles and on location nationwide. Our specialists have worked with East Coast and West Coast documentary crews on projects ranging from indie films to major network productions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the difference between an interrotron and a regular teleprompter?
A regular teleprompter displays text for talent to read. An interrotron displays the interviewer’s live face on screen in front of the camera, so the subject speaks to a person — not text. This creates direct eye contact with the lens while maintaining a natural conversational dynamic.
Q: Do I need to provide my own camera for the interviewer side?
No. Our interrotron package includes an HD professional video camera for the interviewer side of the setup.
Q: Can the interrotron also display scripted text?
Yes. The system can switch between showing the interviewer’s face and displaying scripted text, giving you flexibility to use it as a traditional teleprompter when needed during the same shoot day.
Q: Is this setup good for subjects who are nervous on camera?
This is exactly what it is designed for. Untrained speakers and camera-shy subjects consistently deliver better, more natural performances with the interrotron because they are talking to a face rather than a lens.
